Good photographers use a variety of tools to assist in separating the visual colours.  In part, this is called colour management.  What is colour management?

Colour management (from a practical point of view) is the process of making colour as accurate as possible from the capture to the final delivery of the image.  Photographers may a variety of tool to achieve this goal.  Tools of the trade include grey cards or colour swatch books, colour calibrated monitors and light meters.

Much like a construction contractor requires a measuring tape to measure distance, photographers (should) use a light meter to measure the intensity of light.  Over-exposed images (or photos with too much light) appear washed out. Alternatively, under exposed images are too dark.   Therefore, a good photographer will measure the light to make sure that their camera receives the correct amount of light intensity.

Light colour affects the appearance of objects.  Candle light can be very yellow whereas the illumination at a medical office can be very white; therefore, professional photographers measure light colour to make sure the hues are correct.

Jules Design is a leading Toronto product Photography studio.   We make it a habit to measure the light to produce consistent and accurate images.  Call us if you are looking for a great commercial photographer to image your product, team or anything!  We are insured, well equipped and provide superb references on request.
